If a DFW roofer offers to 'eat your deductible' or 'cover your out-of-pocket,' walk away. Under Texas law, that's insurance fraud — and homeowners who sign onto it can be on the hook too.

    What Texas Law Says

Texas Insurance Code Section 27.02 prohibits a contractor from waiving, paying, or offering to pay all or part of an insurance deductible on a residential or commercial property insurance claim. It's a Class B misdemeanor.

Why Reputable Roofers Won't Do It

Beyond the legal risk, the math doesn't work. To cover your deductible, the roofer either inflates the claim (insurance fraud), uses cheaper materials than scoped (you get a worse roof), or skips line items (you have problems later). None of these are acceptable.

    What's Actually Allowed

Roofers can offer financing for your deductible. They can run promotions or rebates that aren't tied to your specific claim. They can walk you through the supplements process so the carrier covers items you might not have known about. None of those waive your deductible — they just help you pay it.
