Hail stones collected on a North Texas driveway after a spring storm

What To Do After Hail Damage in DFW

A hailstorm just rolled through your neighborhood. Here's exactly what to do — in order — to protect your home and your insurance claim.

If you live in Dallas-Fort Worth long enough, you'll go through a major hailstorm. Spring supercells routinely drop quarter to baseball-sized hail across DeSoto, Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Frisco, and the rest of the metroplex — and your roof, gutters, vehicles, and exterior all take the hit.

    1. Take Photos Immediately

Before you do anything else, document the storm. Take dated phone photos of hail in your yard (with a coin or ruler for scale), any visible roof or exterior damage, dented gutters, dented soft-metal vents, granules in the downspouts, and any interior leaks or ceiling stains. This evidence becomes the backbone of your insurance claim.

    2. Get a Free Roof Inspection — Before You File

Don't file an insurance claim until a qualified roofing contractor has inspected your roof. If there's no real storm damage, an unnecessary claim still goes on your CLUE report. If there is damage, the inspection report becomes the evidence your adjuster needs. Max Exteriors offers free, no-obligation photo roof inspections across DFW with written photo reports.

    3. File Your Insurance Claim

Once damage is confirmed, file with your carrier. State Farm, Allstate, USAA, Farmers, Liberty Mutual and most major Texas carriers let you file online or in their app. You'll receive a claim number and an adjuster assignment within 24-72 hours in most DFW zip codes.

    4. Schedule the Adjuster Meeting

When your adjuster is assigned, ask Max Exteriors to meet them on the roof. This is where most of your claim outcome is decided. We provide our scope on-site so nothing — drip edge, ice & water shield, decking, code upgrades, satellite reset — gets missed.

    5. Get the ACV Check, Then the Roof Replaced

Most Texas RCV policies pay in two checks. The first is the ACV (actual cash value) check minus your deductible. After we complete the roof to scope, the carrier releases the recoverable depreciation — your final RCV check.

    6. File Supplements For Anything Missed

It's normal for the first scope to miss line items. We file supplements for missed drip edge, ice & water shield, decking replacement, code upgrades, ridge vent, pipe boots, satellite dish reset, and similar items so your claim reflects the real cost of replacement.

Texas storm claims generally have a 1-year filing deadline from the date of loss — earlier is always better. If your roof was damaged by recent DFW hail, call Max Exteriors at (469) 779-7325 for a free inspection.
